Our Birdhouses
+ Classrooms

Our children are classified by their ages into Birdhouses. The following is what is available for them and a brief description of the programs.

BIRDHOUSES

Hummingbirds and Chickadees
Age: 2 ½ and 3
Registration is available September to May for our youngest children. Often their first experience in a group setting this program is all about developing communication and social skills. They learn to be independent by doing things for themselves, exploring their environment and experiencing stimulating activities. They learn to understand and express their needs, start to co-operate with others, learn how to problem solve, fine tune their budding physical skills and help take care of their environment. Each day they grow up as an individual who is actively participating in a group. As we celebrate their victories they learn that school can be fun.

Blue Jays and Robins
Age: 4 –JK and 5-SK
Registration is available all year long. The work of becoming a helpful and productive member of the group is part of the job of the Kindergarten age child. These children expand on the skills they have learned earlier and cultivate self-determination, self-respect, and the ability to communicate their own needs, wants, and desires. Fortunately we are able to provide the fuel for their insatiable curiosity that is the gift of this age group. They learn to identify and work with symbols (letters and numbers), tell stories, solve problems (both cognitive and social), and they learn to refine their social and creative skills. Are they ready for the real world? Yes!

CLASSROOMS

The Earth Room is designed for the youngest children (Hummingbirds and Chickadees) and is their home room. The activities in the Earth Room encourage play, problem solving, discovery, getting to know each other, and how to get along with each other. In the Earth Room they learn their cocktail party manners. The Earth Room also invites the older children in to visit and explore just how grown up they have become.

The Sun and Moon Rooms are designed for the all the children especially the older Chickadees, Blue Jays, and Robins. The shelves represent curriculum areas of math, language, culture, sensory, art, music, life skills, science, and nature studies. This is where the unique blending of Early Childhood and Montessori happens. All of our classrooms have space for both individual work and group activities as well as time for play/work that is self-directed, teacher supported, and teacher led. Children are encouraged to care for and be proud of their space. Our classrooms are created for who they are becoming.
