    Kathleen Roerick

    Kathleen, our Executive Director, has been at WMCC for over 31 years (over 32 with this age group), and has had the happy experience of doing every job in the school. Her real job is that of Supervisor working with the parent board, staff, parents, Ministry of Education, City of Toronto Children’s Services, Public Health inspectors, AIA (Algonquin Island Association) and the children to keep WMCC going for a long time to come.

  • Christine Zsolnay

    Christine Zsolnay

    Christine Zsolnay is a Registered Early Childhood Educator and currently works with the youngest children in the Earth Room. She received her diploma in early childhood education at George Brown College, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology at York University. Christine has more than 10 years of experience working with preschool and kindergarten children and is passionate about nature and play-based learning.

  • Symon James-Wilson

    Symon James-Wilson

    Symon James-Wilson is an Ontario Certified Teacher and the current lead teacher in the Sun and Moon Kindergarten Room. Her favorite thing about WMCC is how close knit the community is. Symon has worked in the field of education for over sixteen years, and has taught in recreation, childcare, school, and university settings. Symon earned her HBA in Human Geography, BEd in Elementary Education, and Master’s of Art in Human Geography from the University of Toronto. She is a third generation Toronto Island resident, and also the founder of Algonquin Island Forest Kindergarten (@islandforestkinder).

  • Willa Milchem-Bourne

    Willa Milchem-Bourne

    Willa has been working at WMCC as a Teaching Assistant, music teacher and science and nature teacher since 2014. She currently works mainly in the Earth Room as a Teaching Assistant. Willa was a student at WMCC and grew up on Toronto Island, so it is a joy and an honour for her to teach and be a part of the community to this day. She is currently working on getting her ECE certification, and is also a musician and painter in her free time.

  • Ariel Čikvar

    Ariel Čikvar

    Ariel has been with us for over 15 years. She has her Early Childhood Educator diploma and was a WMCC teacher for many years. Currently she is serving up healthy and delicious meals, in her role as the School Cook. Ariel grew up on the Island and is a former WMCC student. This has given her a unique understanding and connection to the island flora and fauna, and the people involved in making this place such a close knit community.

  • Joey Gladding

    Joey Gladding

    Joey is our Office Administrator and has been with us for over 13 years. She looks after the bookkeeping, budget preparation and grants. Joey has a long history with the AIA because she was the Project Co-ordinator when the building was rebuilt 32 years ago. She was also the Coordinator of the Franklin Children’s Garden at Centre Island for 6 years.

  • Darielle Segovia

    Darielle is a Registered Early Childhood Educator who has worked with children in preschool, before/after school care, and Montessori environments. She currently teaches a French enrichment program at WMCC three mornings a week. In her downtime, Darielle enjoys hanging out with her cat and trying to keep her house plants alive!

  • Izzy Cameron

    Izzy Cameron

    Izzy is an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto and a part-time Teaching Assistant in the Sun & Moon Kindergarten room. She has previously worked with children as a teacher’s aid, ski instructor, and environmental educator. Izzy loves working with children of all ages and especially enjoys teaching them about the environment. She plans to attend teacher’s college after graduation.
